Meet Sam Pearson
Founder & Managing Director
Sam Pearson is the heart behind Mura Care Support Services. A proud Torres Strait Islander, Sam brings over 15 years of experience in the Disability, Youth, and Community Services sectors. His personal and professional journey has been shaped by a strong cultural foundation, a deep understanding of community needs, and a passion for helping others navigate systems that can often feel complex and disconnected from local ways of life.
Sam’s Story
Growing up in the Torres Strait Islands, Sam witnessed first-hand the challenges faced by his community in accessing mainstream services. Language barriers, cultural misunderstandings, and a lack of tailored support often meant that people missed out on the help they needed.
Determined to make a difference, Sam has spent years working directly with individuals and families in the disability sector, providing support that goes beyond checklists—support that respects culture, family values, and community connection.
His fluency in Torres Strait languages such as Kalaw Lagaw Ya, Kalaw Kawaw Ya, and Meriam Mir enables him to bridge the gap between clients and service providers, ensuring clear communication and culturally safe interactions.
Sam’s Mission & Vision
Sam’s vision is simple yet powerful:
“To ensure Torres Strait Islander and Cape York people receive the support they deserve, in a way that honours their culture and identity.”
Mura Care was founded with this goal at its core. Through culturally appropriate support services, Sam aims to empower individuals and families, helping them access the NDIS, QLD Health, and other essential services without losing their cultural voice.
Core Values We Live By

Cultural Integrity: Respecting and upholding traditions, languages, and community values.
-
Quality Care: Providing professional, reliable, and compassionate support.
-
Community Engagement: Working closely with local communities to ensure services reflect their needs.
-
Empowerment: Supporting individuals to make informed choices and take control of their lives.
-

Why Sam Started Mura Care
“I saw a real gap in services for my people. Mainstream providers don’t always understand our way of life, how we speak, or what’s important to us. Mura Care is my way of changing that—by delivering support that feels right, that respects who we are.”
— Sam Pearson
